Seventh Annual Children's Water Festival to be held on Friday, May 9, 2008

The City of Battle Creek and the Battle Creek Area Mathematics and Science Center are sponsoring free science training opportunities for fourth and fifth grade students through the Fifth Annual Children's Water Festival, on Friday, May 9, 2008 at Kellogg Community College.

  Groundwater Simulator

Students get hands-on experience with a groundwater simulator.

The festival highlights the importance of teaching children why they should protect water resources and influence other people to do the same. The festival is also meant to target the SCI.V.2.MS.3 science benchmark, and both fourth and fifth grade students are invited.

The classes attending the festival will attend in two hour blocks between the hours of 9:00 am and 2:00 pm. Classes will participate in two hands-on presentations and attend a concert by Billy B, an outstanding environmental performer from the Chesapeake Bay area, who engages the audience through the use of rock and roll, rap, salsa and dance.

Past festivals have been very successful with nearly 1300 area students participating. In previous years, we received comments such as, “Super Idea”, “Incredible”, “Excellent — very hands-on”, “It was a great addition to our science kit!”, “Kids really enjoyed everything!”, “It was awesome!”, “Great Stuff for Teachers!” All classes attending this festival will receive a curriculum packet so that teachers could bring the message back to their schools. Also, all students and teachers will receive a free festival T-shirt.
