2002 Family Water Festival and Annual Leroy Sparks Marathon

A Family Water Festival was held on Tuesday, August 6, 2002 from noon to 3 PM at the Waterfront Seafood Restaurant, 315 West Columbia Ave (on the north shore of Goguac Lake) as part of the 75th Annual Leroy F. Sparks Swim Marathon. The festival was sponsored by the City of Battle Creek and by Calhoun County Community Development (Battle Creek Enquirer, August 7, 2002).

Gull Lake Shoreline Protection

Gull Lake residents explored ways to use plants and other natural materials to construct seawalls to protect lake shorelines (Battle Creek Enquirer, April 18, 2002).

Pennfield Township Wellhead Protection Grant

Pennfield Township has received a $130,000 state grant and has designated a protected area as part of its Wellhead Protection Program (Battle Creek Enquirer, January 14, 2002).
